Matthew earns best blocker award

-

Kinross High School pupil Matthew Moloney helped Scotland East secure gold following a weekend of junior international volleyball.

The first ever ‘Flying Scots’ invitation tournament for boys and girls aged under-18 took place at St Andrews University.

Four teams competed for the top prize with Scotland East joined at the event by Scotland West, Northern Ireland and North West England.

Matthew featured in the Scotland East team and it proved to be a tournament of success for the middle hitter/blocker.

He helped his squad navigate through to the final and secure an exciting 25-9, 24-26, 15-7 triumph over Scotland West.

Matthew’s weekend was made even better when he was voted best middle blocker of the tournament.

Meanwhile, local volleyball clubs are getting back into the swing of things ahead of action intensifying over the coming months.
