Continent calling for the Perth runners

Elsewhere, the Hills series came to an end midweek at Gateside for the Gallop.

Lisa Aikmen ran out winner both on the night and for the series, followed by Fiona Manson and Steph Reid in the standings.

For the males, Stuart Robertson led the way for the club, third overall, followed by Ronnie Glen and Jimmy Fotheringh­am.

Closer to home the Perthshire half marathon and marathon was on the radar of green vests and counted for the club’s championsh­ip.

In the half, 37 road runners lined-up at the start and there were personal bests for a plethora of Perth members.

Steph Reid, Garry Smith, Kev Riddell, Katrina Leese, Craig Tomlinson, Diane White, Maria Dale, Kevin Wilkie and Caroline Malloy achieved PBs.

The race itself was won by Stuart Robertson in a time of 1:17.58.

In the marathon, personal bests were recorded by Richard Ward, who finished in sixth place, and also by Duncan Ryan.

There was the small matter of a 24-hour race in Glenmore which welcomed Perth runners Gillian Smith and Kev Rogers.

Runners have 24 hours to complete as many loops as they can and, for their part, Kev ran over 100 miles while Gillian completed 82 miles.

Overseas, representi­ng the club in South Africa were two road runners.

Ella Webley was supporting her husband in an Ironman and, when in Port Elizabeth, she ran in the Nelson Mandela 5k.

And Kirsty Johnson was flying the Fair City flag by taking on the Johannesbu­rg parkrun.

Thirty six club runners took to the North Inch version of parkrun which saw Mike Carroll first home followed by Dave Knight and Steven Bonthrone.

For the ladies, Lorraine McPherson was followed by Sonjia Crow and Kristen Allcoat. There were PBs for Rhona Henderson, Rhona Watson and Megan Toole.

And it was a special day for Karen Walters who completed her 200th parkrun at Perth.

On their parkrun travels at the weekend were Mark Dunn and Sue Jones at Ruchill in Glasgow, while Karen Christie ran at Lochore Meadows.
