Michelin chef makes time for special tea
A top Michelin star chef will be coming to Perthshire to make an afternoon tea.
Tom Kitchin, who currently holds a Michelin star for The Kitchin restaurant in Leith, will be visiting Gleneagles Hotel next month as the hotel puts on a series of afternoon tea events.
The top chef started off as a trainee at the luxury resort and will use inspiration from his popular Scran and Scallie gastopub in Stockbridge to create his bespoke dining experience.
His afternoon tea will celebrate his local roots by using Scottish ingredients and will be brought to life by Gleneagles’expert team of pastry chefs.
It is set to include treats such as steak pie, curried crayfish and a Cullen skink fish cake, with sweet pastries such as lemon meringue pie and treacle tart.
Tom said:“It’s a real honour to have been asked back to Gleneagles and be able to put my own twist on the hotel’s iconic afternoon tea menu.
“Gleneagles is where I began my career as a young trainee chef at just 16 years of age, so it’s a pleasure to be able to give something back.
“This afternoon tea is a true celebration of Scotland’s natural larder and the flavours and ingredients available on Gleneagles’doorstep.”
Tom, who grew up in Kinross-shire, was the youngest Scot to ever win a Michelin star when he achieved the accolade aged 29.
The week of afternoon teas from Monday, October 1 to Sunday, October 7 will also feature top chefs such as two-Michelin star chef Andrew Fairlie, William Curley and Lady Claire
