‘Lazy’ parents put kids’ lives at risk

Residents blast‘thoughtless’parking

- Staff reporter

A head teacher has urged residents to contact the police to report parents who have been posing a danger to pupils by parking illegally outside a Perth primary school.

The bid to stop parents parking dangerously and blocking a junction outside Inchview Primary has been backed by Perth City South councillor Willie Wilson.

Fed-up residents claim “thoughtless and lazy” parents are persistently parking on double yellow lines and have been taking photos to pass to police.

One Windsor Terrace resident said: “Some of the parking is absolutely ludicrous. It happens every single day at school drop-off and pick-up time.

“They are blocking the view of any driver turning in and out of the junction with Glenearn Road and a child will inevitably be knocked down and injured, or worse.

“There is absolutely no excuse for it as there is plenty of free parking within a couple of hundred yards from the school, if these people could actually be bothered to get out of their cars with their children.

“It is just thoughtless and lazy. They just want to park as close as they can to the school and watch their children, even if it means they are putting them in danger.

“I’ve seen numerous children get out of cars and run straight across the road and any driver turning into the street would have no chance to see them.

“A disaster is only a matter of time in my opinion. It’s been reported a number of times to the school but they don’t seem to be able to do anything to change parental behaviour.

“That’s why the residents have started taking photographic evidence which Selfish parking is putting kids lives in danger

can be passed to the police so further action can be taken.”

Head teacher Margaret Donaghy confirmed parents had been repeatedly told in the official newsletter to avoid parking across from the school.

She said: “The newsletter item has had no impact. I will continue to address the issue but I would suggest the police are notified about the parking given the seriousness of the situation.”

Cllr Wilson said: “Parking at the junction of Windsor Terrace and

Glenearn Road is a real issue at certain times of day.

“We are really concerned by bad parking at this location.

“The school has written to parents on the matter. We would ask parents to walk with their kids to school, if at all practicable, or as an alternative park some distance from the school and walk the rest of the way.

“If everyone crowds into the same space only congestion will win out in the end.”
