Annalise murder accused is denied bail

-

A woman, accused of murdering a 22-year-old female at a witch’s memorial in Perthshire, has had her bail appeal rejected.

Twenty-eight-year-old Angela Newlands, of Inchture, was initially granted bail, with a curfew condition, following a brief appearance in private at Perth Sheriff Court last Friday.

But that was opposed by the prosecution and she was remanded in custody pending resolution of the bail appeal hearing on Tuesday.

Newlands is now expected to be fully committed for trial after she makes a second appearance in the dock at the Tay Street court later today (Friday, September 14).

She is accused of repeatedly striking Annalise Johnstone, from Ardrossan, Ayrshire, on the neck, cutting her neck with a sharp implement and murdering her.

The incident is said to have taken place at the Maggie’s Wall monument, near Dunning, on May 9 or 10 this year.

Miss Johnstone’s body was found in a wooded area near the memorial, adjacent to the B8062 road between Auchterarder and Dunning, on May 10.

A second accused, 24-year-old Jordan Johnstone, has already been fully committed for trial in connection with a charge of murdering his sister Annalise.

He made a second appearance in private at Perth Sheriff Court on June 1 and no motion for bail was made.

He was remanded in custody to Perth Prison.

The petition against him alleges that he repeatedly struck his sister in the neck with a sharp implement at the monument.

Johnstone, who had been living in Perthshire, also faced a second charge alleging he stole a caravan in Irvine, Ayrshire, on May 9.
