A group from one of Perth’s twin cities will be visiting Perth this weekend.

The visit by the group from Bydgoszcz will mark 20 years since the town in northern Poland was twinned with the Fair City.

A number of visits and activities will be held over the weekend.

A special photography exhibition, hosted by Perth-based group Friends of Bydgoszcz, was opened at AK Bell Library yesterday.

As part of the celebration of the twinning anniversary, a youth photographic competition was held in Bydgoszcz and the winners are part of the group visiting Perth this weekend.

Winners Anna Rozeczka (17) and Jarek Piotrowski (18) showed off their photographs at the exhibition, which opened yesterday (Thursday, September 13).

The photography exhibition will stay at the library until late this afternoon, where it will be moved to North Inch Community Campus for the weekend.

Douglas Pover, chair of the Friends of Bydgoszcz, said:“Our visitors are going to have a busy time.

“Following their welcome and exhibition on Thursday, they will be visiting Dunkeld, Pitlochry, Edinburgh and Kinross, as well as Perth.

“This is the first of a number of events celebrating our 20 years of twinning. A Chopin concert is to be held in St John’s Kirk on Wednesday, November 14.

“We hope to have a return visit to Bydgoszcz next year when our twinning comes of age with 21 years of the cities’twinning.”

Following on from yesterday’s exhibition opening, the visitors from northern Poland were treated to a civic reception in the council chambers by Provost Dennis Melloy.
