Almondbank

Church The service last Sunday was conducted by Mr Craig Dobney and his sermon was ‘Onwards and upwards’. Flora Wylie read the lessons, Alison Hooper was organist and flowers were donated by Maureen Grant. Mr Dobney will take the service on Sunday. Anyone who requires pastoral services should contact Rev Graham Crawford on 01738 626048. On Saturday, September 15 from 1am until 2pm there will be a Macmillan coffee morning in the church hall.

Church Morning worship last Sunday at 11am was conducted by Rev Mike Erskine. On Sunday this week the service will be held at 11am. A creche for children under three is available during every Sunday morning service. The prayer group meets on Thursdays in Burnside Court lounge at 10.30am. Family history Alyth Family History Project is open on Sundays from 2-4pm in Alyth Parish Church. The project includes thousands of photograph­s of people, events, schools, businesses, weddings, children and views, etc. Admission is free. Bowling club Numbers in the lotto draw this week were 8, 9, 13 and 18. There were no winners and prize money next week will be £1490.

Balbeggie

St Martins Public Hall The 250 club September draw results were: £10 winners - Irene Green, Katy Peake and Ian Gray; £5 winner - Jamie Watson. Church Morning worship this Sunday is in the village hall at 9.30am, led by Rev Bob Sloan. Teas/coffees will be served at the close of the service. A kirk session meeting will be held on September 18 in Burnside Hall at 7.30pm to discuss St Martins. Members of the congregati­on can attend this meeting to give their support.

Hall A basket whist drive will be held in Ballintuim Village Hall from 7.30pm on Friday, September 28. Proceeds will go to hall funds.

Church The service on Sunday at 11.15am will be conducted by Rev Bill McGregor. Michael Ellacott will be playing at the service.

Bendochy

Church Last Sunday’s service was conducted by Rosemary Patterson and the Bible lessons were from Two Kings chapter five, verses 1-15 and Luke chapter 11, verses 1-13, read by S Cumming. Blackwater

Coffee morning Blackwater Hall Committee is hosting a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support from 10am until 2pm on Saturday, September 28. There will be a cake and candy stall and raffle held on the day. Donations for these are welcome. Rev Neil Glover of Dull and Weem Church presented local resident Anna Gurung with cheques totalling £5700 for her charity.

Anna and Sanu Gurung set up Bring Back The Smile To Nepal after a devastatin­g earthquake hit the country in 2015.

Most of the money was raised through fundraisin­g events organised by the church congregati­on.

However, a chance meeting on holiday in Italy between church member John MacDiarmid and Geoff Newhouse, chair of the H and J Visram Foundation, resulted in a donation of £1200 from the foundation.

Anna also received direct donations totalling about £600 from people attending the church’s fundraisin­g events.

She said:“I am delighted to receive this money on behalf of the people of Nepal.

“We will use the donation to help rebuild the homes and lives of these amazing people.”

The earthquake resulted in a large loss of life and demolished many homes, schools and other buildings. Bowling club Members had an enjoyable afternoon with ladies from Scottish Bowlers Fellowship last Wednesday, with scores level. They thanked everyone who helped with catering, the bar and raffle prizes. The annual game on Friday night with guests from AGB was also very enjoyable. The annual prize giving list and buffet is on the notice board. Anyone taking a guest should put their name in the appropriat­e section. The points competitio­n this Saturday is from noon until 4pm. Players atttending the Bannerman Triples on Sunday at noon are advised to be there early. Donations of food and raffles will be welcome. Hat night winners were Sandra Emmerson, Jack Steele and Andrew Ballantyne. The Wednesday Club starts on October 3 at 2-4pm. The winter season for darts and dominoes starts on October 5. Old Tyme Dance The next dance is tonight (Friday) in the Institute from 7.30–10.30pm. Music provided by Allan Small. Entry costs £5, including tea and biscuits. Proceeds to charity. Dunbarney & Forgandenn­y Church The services on Sunday are at 9.30am in Dunbarney and 11am at Forgandenn­y. Monday Club The next meeting is on September 17 at 2pm in the church hall. There will be a talk about the work of the first responders. Women’s Group The first meeting of the new session, entitled ‘Pearls and Prosecco’ is on September 19 at 7.30pm in the church hall. Claire Bruce from Number Five, jewellers in Perth, will talk about pearls. LECT Guild The next meeting is on September 24 at 7.30pm in Dunning Church. The talk will be about the Year of Young People with representa­tives from Perth High School. Macmillan coffee morning The event is in Caledonia Housing lounge, Muirmont, on September 28, from 10am–12.30pm. Entry is by donation. There will be cake and candy, sales table and raffle. Donations of items would be appreciate­d. Flower festival Organisers thanked everyone who went along and supported the festival run by Dunbarney and Forgandenn­y Church and Perth Flower Club last weekend. They also thanked everyone who elped.

Burrelton

Church Morning worship last Sunday was led by the Rev Douglas Main. Lynne Mitchell was organist and also read the lessons from Jonah chapter one, verses 1-17. Office bearers on duty were John Alexander Frank Moisey and Iain Stevenson. Flowers were provided by Suzanne Spalding. Guild At their opening meeting convener Sheena McNaughton welcomed Rev Sydney Graham and his wife Edna. Rev Graham spoke on ‘seeking the way’. Devotions were led by Sheena McNaughton. Tea hostess was Gail MacKenzie. Vote of thanks was given by Sheena McNaughton. The next meeting is at 7pm on October 4 in the church halls. Beverley O’Lone will speak on the work of the SSPCA. The church harvest supper is at 7pm in the church halls. Entertain- ment will be provided by Kirriemuir the Whit. Community cafe The cafe runs on Tuesdays, from noon to 1.30pm. Anyone who wants to join the rota can contact Aileen on 07769 264952. The cafe is open every Tuesday in the church hall. No charge is made for tea, coffee or home baking. Busy Bees Toddlers’ group runs on Tuesday mornings from 10am to 11.30am. Burrelton and Woodside Youth Club The club is open to all young people from P6-S6 every Sunday from 6.30-8pm. Coffee morning The organisers and stall holders thanked everyone who worked in Caputh Hall last Saturday, donated goods and attended. £1225 was realised. The hamper was won by Lorna Robertson (Brown) and the cake by Jennifer Robertson. Church Rev Peggy Ewart-Roberts led worship in Caputh Church last Sunday, with Rev Bill Ewart preaching the sermon. The service included the rededicati­on of the guild in preparatio­n for their new session on October 10. Bill and Jenny Whyte were organists and J Paul read the lessons. Autumn fair The church fair will take place from 10am-2pm on October 6. It costs £10 for craft or commercial stalls and £5 for charity stalls. Entry to the event is £2 for adults, with children free. After intercessi­on the congregati­on sang ‘Praise My Soul, the King of Heaven’. The service closed with the benedictio­n. Organist Austin Wilkie played ‘Consonanze Stravagant­i’ by Giovanni Trabici, ‘Largo’ by Thomas Arne and ‘Toccata in F’ by Dietrich Buxtehude. Sunday services at the abbey are from 11.15am-12.15pm, followed by teas and coffees. Rev Graham is on holiday from September 8-22 inclusive. Pastoral cover will be provided by Rev Bill Ewart. Open Doors this Saturday will see the abbey open from 10am4pm. Harvest thanksgivi­ng is on September 30 in the abbey. All contributi­ons go to the local foodbank. Craft fayre The Friends of Balhousie group’s event will be from 11am-2pm on September 23 at the Red House Hotel. Stalls can be booked at £10 by calling 07765 018758. Dance Scottish country dance classes resume on September 17 at 7.309.30pm, costing £3 per class. Dancers should wear soft shoes. New members welcome.

Dull and District SWI Dorothy Procter welcomed everyone to the meeting. Rory MacDonald of MacDonald Bros Butchers gave a demonstrat­ion of how to prepare a side of lamb.
