Being in contention on the final day of action brings a buzz like no other for Perthshire golfer Carly Booth.

And that is where the Comrie star found herself heading into the closing round of last week’s Ladies European Tour event in France.

The 26-year-old hit top form at the Lacoste Ladies Open de France near Bordeaux and was within touching distance of the leaders all tournament.

Rounds of 72, 65 and 69 had Carly three off the summit of the leaderboard with 18 holes of the Chateaux Course left to play.

A closing level-par round of 71 was ultimately not enough to rise up the standings but it was a confidenceboosting 11th place finish.

Carly admits it was special to be back chasing titles.

“It’s the best feeling [to be in contention] and I’ve really missed it,” Carly said. “It gives me such a buzz. I crave that winning feeling every day.

“I brought out Robbie, a caddie I get on well with and we just had a laugh all week.

“I just set one target and that was to have some fun.

“I feel that my game has not been far away all year. It was the boost I needed to end my season strong, because I know I have to.

“My game has been solid, I’ve just been struggling this year with confidence to take into the tournament rounds.

“Maybe that is from a lack of tournament golf this year and putting too much pressure on myself to perform.

“I think going out to LPGA stage one qualifying just gave me the tournament practice I needed.”

Hard work both on the course and in the gym has been taking place across the past few months.

The plan, now, is to follow last week’s performance up with another special showing at the Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open in Spain.

Memories from last year’s tournament, this time running from September 20-23, are positive.

“I had the Scottish Open at the end of July and then a couple of weeks at home practicing and training every day,” Carly said.

“As well as that I had been playing and

Carly hopes to build on her France performance next week going to the gym every day in America. So I have been working hard.

“It’s Spain next week and I am feeling confident. I will go into it with the same mindset as last week.

“I made the cut at the event last year and I think the course suits my game.

“I have the same caddie as last week too so it’s all positive vibes heading into the event.”
