Pipe band milestone
Perth’s former Lord Provost, Dr John Hulbert has led the congratulations to Perth and District Pipe Band on the occasion of its 125 anniversary.
On Saturday, September 15, the band exercised its right to play through the streets of the city of Perth.
There were 21 pipers, eight sides and four tenors on parade, passing St John’s Kirk as well as stopping to perform at Horsecross Plaza.
Dr Hulbert, patron of PDPB, said:“Very few organisations achieve such longevity, and the credit for this must go to several generations of pipe majors and band committees.
“The anniversary parade demonstrated that the band in 2018 is in very good heart and voice. ”
Dr Hulbert continued: “The band owes a great debt to Alistair Duthie, the current pipe major, who has steadily improved the standard and range of the band’s music, broadened its recruitment, and integrated band is 125 years old and still going strong the band into the civic fabric of the city of Perth, especially since his appointment as official city piper in 2010.”
On Saturday there is a family ceilidh with Tay Ceilidh Band at the Perth Ex-servicemen’s Club to celebrate 125 years of Perth and District Pipe Band.
The music starts with the pipe bands from 7.30pm and then it will be time to start dancing the night away.
Tickets £10, under 18s £6.
