St Serf’s Church The service last Sunday was conducted by Craig Dobney. Alistair Ritchie read the lessons, Irene McLean was the organist and the flowers were kindly gifted by Joyce Nairn. Church Morning worship last Sunday at 11am was conducted by Rev Mike Erskine. On Sunday, the service is at 11am. A creche for children under three is available during every Sunday morning service. The prayer group meets on Thursdays in Burnside Court lounge at 10.30am. Family History Alyth family history project is open on Sunday afternoons, from 2-4pm in Alyth Parish Church. The project includes thousands of photograph­s of people, events, schools, businesses, weddings, children, views, etc. Admission is free. WRI The members of Amulree WRI had a busy summer preparing for their annual Atholl and Breadalban­e Show in Aberfeldy. After entering the housewives and handicraft­s section, flower arranging and a number of personal entries, they were awarded with the trophy for the institute with most points. In addition, Heather Walker was the individual with most points, Liz Noble won the best article in tapestry, and seven-year-old Barry McManamon was the winner of the junior’s trophy. The first meeting on September 10, was well attended and the talk was given by Alan and Moira Melrose entitled “Two go on a gap year – before it’s too late!”. The couple showed some photograph­s and spoke about their year travelling in a motorhome around France and Spain. The next meeting is on October 8, at 7.30pm for their annual bingo tea, with raffle and plenty of tea and cakes provided at the interval. All welcome. The group of amateur artists meets for classes in Perth’s Moncreiffe Community Hall and exhibited their paintings there over three days.

Wednesday Club Bankfoot Wednesday Club’s next meeting is on September 26, at 2pm in the community church. Guest speaker will be the very humorous Sandy MacFarlane, one time stage manager of Perth Theatre who also toured with the Black and White Minstrels. He has wonderful stories from his travels and of the stars he has worked with. Subscripti­on is £5 with admission £1.00 for members/£2 for visitors. This includes tea/coffee and biscuits. Hall Members of the Blackwater Hall committee are hosting a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support from 10am-noon on September 28. There will be a cake and candy stall and raffle. Donations for these will be greatly appreciate­d. All welcome.

Blairingon­e

WI The new season of Blairingon­e Women’s Rural opened with a welcome from new president, Mary Ramsay, who introduced the programme for the coming year. It was interestin­g and informativ­e, offering a range of activities including demonstrat­ions, talks and social events. Mrs Angie Burt gave an inspiring demonstrat­ion on making a range of bags for all occasions through the use of most types of materials. The ladies had an opportunit­y to try it out for themselves and was followed by a delicious tea. Anyone interested in joining the rural should contact Mary on 01383 852205. Competitio­ns were: jar of lemon curd won by Mary Mitchell, with Mary Ramsay second. Flower of the month won by Agnes Murray. tremendous help in getting our message out to a wider audience.”

Jenny Haldane opened the event, recalling her past involvemen­t with the group as chairperso­n and treasurer.

The classes took off after an advert in the local press in the early 1990s.

Initially there were classes in painting and in stitch craft held in Earn Community Council The community council will meet next Monday, September 24, in The Institute, Bridge of Earn at 7pm. The agenda for the meeting can be viewed on the Earn Community Council Facebook page. All welcome. Cyprus Golf Club Golfers should note the bus times for the outing to Piperdam Golf Club are 8am at Kintillo, followed by the usual pick up points thereafter. The club’s lottery ball winners this week were Scott and Ewan £75, and I Ptak £50. Bowling Club The closing of the green is on Saturday at 2pm, followed by barbecue. The prize night on November 12 will follow with buffet and dance, 6pm for 6.30pm. Tickets cost £15, available from the committee. The winter season starts on October 5. Doors open at 7.30pm, with carpet bowls. Wednesday Club starts on October 3, from 2-4pm. These events are open to members and non-members. A ladies night will be on October 20, open to all. President George Laing thanked members for their support over the past season. Hat night winners were Peter Scott, David Simpson and Mary McLaren. Dunbarney and Forgandenn­y Church The services on Sunday are at the usual times – 9.30am in Dunbarney and 11am at Forgandenn­y. The next meeting of the guild is on September 24 at 7.30pm in Dunning Church. The talk is on the ‘Year of young people’ with representa­tives from Perth High School. There will be a church service at Moncreiffe Care Home on September 28 at 2.30pm. Macmillan coffee morning in Caledonia Housing lounge, Muirmont on that day from 10am–12.30pm.

Burrelton

Bowling Club Last Saturday, 16 members from Strathmart­ine club travelled to Burrelton to play in the annual friendly game. The weather was kind to all and resulted in a win for Strathmart­ine by 76 shots to 51. Church Morning worship last Sunday

Jenny paid tribute to class tutor, artist Douglas Matthews and said: “Douglas instilled enthusiasm, giving encouragem­ent and expert guidance to pupils and the group went from strength to strength.”

Autumn Fair The Coupar Angus Abbey Church fair will be in the Dundee Road venue at 10am-2pm on October 20. It costs £10 for craft or commercial stall, and £5 for charity stall. The service was opened with the hymn, In Heavenly Love Abiding. Bible readings read by Ellen McGibbon were from Psalm 125, verse one, and Hebrews chapter 11, verses 1-10 and 22-24. The minister’s sermon was followed by prayers of intercessi­on. The service closed with the hymn, Tell out my soul. The prayer group and Bible study group resume at 2pm and 7.15pm respective­ly, on September 26. Harvest thanksgivi­ng will be on September 30 in the Abbey. All contributi­ons will go to the local food bank. Craft Fayre Friends of Balhousie are hosting the fayre at 11am-2pm on Sunday, at the Red House Hotel. Stalls are still available for those wishing to showcase their wares, at a cost of £10 by calling 07765 018758. Entry to the fayre costs £1 and there will be a lucky ticket raffle. Heritage Associatio­n The new season begins on October 5. Mike Taylor will talk about ‘1918: The end game’. Meetings start at 7.30pm and are held in St Anne’s Church hall. All welcome. Thursday Friends The first tea party last week was a great success with a good turnout. Ann Campbell introduced entertaine­r, B Sharp, who played keyboard and sang a selection of 1960s songs. After tea and raffle, Ann Richards thanked all for attending and donating raffle prizes, and to Brian for a lovely afternoon. The next party is on October 11.

Church The service on Sunday is at 11am. The final Lect guild meeting will be in the church on September 24 at 7pm. Bowling Club Lottery numbers this week were 1, 12, 19 and 20. There were no winners and next week’s prize money is £2000.

Bowling club Lotto - The numbers drawn on Tuesday , September 18 were 3, 5, 6 and 19. There was no winner. The rollover is now £1000. The next draw will take place on Sunday, September 23 at 2pm in the clubhouse.

West Carse Community Council A presentati­on will be in St Madoes Community Centre on September 26 at 7.30pm. Members of the public and local organisati­ons can view the proposals to disburse the community benefit received from the owners of Gallowflat solar farm. All welcome.
