Harvest thanksgiving service is on September 30. Donations of dried/ tinned food are being collected for CATH, the Perth homelessness charity. Services are every Sunday at 9.45am. All welcome.

Kinross and District Pipe Band There is an open invitation to attend a “Jam session” at 7-9pm on September 27, in the Masonic Hall, The Muirs. The band meets on the last Thursday of every month from September to April. It is open to pipers or drummers from the Kinross area, irrespective of skill. Kinross and Ochil Walking Group The next trek will leave on September 29 from Gargunnock to Kippen, a distance of seven and a half miles. It is a circular walk along quiet roads and lanes. Session House Pat Townsend will discuss the Mount Blair community archive during a presentation entitled ‘The glens through the lens of time’. It will take place from 7.30pm at Kirkmichael Session House on September 26. Entry to the Main Street venue is by way of a £2 donation, with proceeds in aid of Session House funds.

WI President Muriel Anderson welcomed members and a number of new members to the opening meeting of the season. Douglas Raulston was introduced and the ladies enjoyed hearing about the penguin, Sid, and his journey to the top of the Sidlaws. Members thoroughly enjoyed Douglas’s talk and hearing how his artwork has developed over the years. Vote of thanks was given by Muriel Anderson and the hostess was Anne Duff. Competitions were: pasta salad won by Sheila Boyack, Elizabeth Lindsay second, Laura Ferguson third. Finger puppet won by Muriel Anderson, Joyce Barr second; flower of the month won by Sandra Boe. Duffy, Matthew Oates, Rhona Gardener and president Alay Milne clubs.
Both pupils gave an interesting illustrated talk to Perth rotarians highlighting how the course developed their team working, leadership, communication, problem solving and decision making skills.

SWI At the September meeting president Isobel Robertson introduced Cheryl Douglas, a personal stylist who gave the ladies tips on choosing the right type and colour of clothes to suit their colouring and figures. She demonstrated by using clothes and jewellery she had brought along with her on several of the members. Vote of thanks was given by W Greenlees, tea hostesses were E Watson and E Troup. Competitions were: favourite photo Frame won by F Haggart, N Shaw second, A Bremner third. Raspberry jam won by N Shaw, C Craig second, A Bremner third. She congratulated members on their success at Perth Show winning The Housewives Shield in the Community section. The speaker for the evening was Fiona Davidson from Historic Scotland, based at Stanley Mills. She provided an excellent talk on ‘a busmans holiday’. Hostess was Mrs K Baldie. Competition results were: favourite biscuit box won by J Gill, M Rennie second, E Valentine third. Homemade biscuits won by K Baldie, W Reid second, E Valentine third.
