Commonweal Perth and Kinross The group plays host next week to the author of a newly-published book on the recent events in Catalonia.

Economist, academic, and former MP, George Kerevan has written Catalonia Reborn alongside journalist, political activist, and TV presenter/producer Chris Bambery. The book is a guide to Catalonia’s political, historical, and cultural issues.

George will talk about his new book and attempt to answer a number of important questions:

Why was the 2017 Catalonian independence referendum illegal? Is there a chance the region could become independent? Why Catalonia? And what are the reasons behind the fight for independence?

Catalonia, an autonomous region of modern Spain, has seen great change, produced world-renowned figures, and plays a huge part in Spain’s economy and history. The year 2017 saw Catalonia come under the world’s spotlight with the issue of independence.

Catalonia Reborn is on Wednesday, September 26 from 7pm-9pm in the Salutation Hotel, 30-34 South Street, Perth, PH2 8PH.

The event is free but ticketed and can be booked at Eventbrite - bit.ly/catpert
