Saints will aim for clean sweep
Women determined for net bonanza
St Johnstone Women’s manager Jason McCrindle has called on his side to be more clinical in front of goal after a spirited performance ended in defeat at the weekend.
The Perth side lost 1-0 at home to Motherwell in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.
Despite the defeat manager McCrindle feels his side should have got more from the game.
He said: “It was a disappointing result but it was a fantastic performance.
“The girls gave everything they had to give and they felt that the minimum they deserved was to take the tie into extra time.
“We just couldn’t get that elusive goal for the amount of possession and the amount of chances that we had in the second half we were just a little bit disappointed with the result but pleased with the performance.
“It’s just about being ruthless because we had a lot of possession.
“So I just want us to be more ruthless in front of goal and then hopefully in the future the girls can get the result they want and the results they deserve.”
Saints welcome Glasgow Girls FC
Jason McCrindle to McDiarmid Park on Sunday and after a 3-0 Saints away victory in their last meeting, the manager is hoping for a repeat performance.
He said: “I just think if we continue to play the way we did going into Sundays game I am confident that the girls will get their rewards.
“It’s a good game for us to come back to. MacLean evades a challenge against a Motherwell player
“The girls know what’s a stake and they know where we want to finish and I want them to play like they did on Sunday.
“Glasgow are tough, they always are.
“I think the girls are looking to carry out their frustration on the Glasgow game on Sunday.
“Sunday was a bit different as it was the Scottish Cup and you don’t need to motivate the players.
“But I think this Sunday they are usually close games with Glasgow.
“We had a really fantastic result against them the last time.
“I’m hoping the players can go out there on Sunday and reproduce the performance they put in against Glasgow the last time.”
St Johnstone currently sit fourth in the table, three points ahead of Glasgow, and McCrindle thinks an improvement on last year is a realistic target.
He said: “I just want us to improve on last year where we finished fifth and got to the quarter final of the Scottish Cup.
“This year we are in fourth place just now.
“We’re just three points off second and I think if we improve on last season placing then it will be a very good season for us.”
