Morven’s dancing for joy
A young Perth dancer with big ambitions has been offered a place at one of the UK’s leading performing arts academies.
Morven McGregor from Perth’s Craigie area has been given the green light to study acting at the MGA Academy of Performing Arts in Edinburgh.
She’ll begin full-time training this month to help her make it as a professional performer.
Morven (16), impressed staff at the MGA Academy during an intensive audition for the academy’s new BA (Hons) Dance degree course.
Students on this course will now also receive academic recognition from Bath Spa University when they graduate.
In a helpful twist, this new course allows Morven to study at a level equivalent to prestigious London performing arts colleges while living in Scotland.
Morven began dancing shortly before her third birthday and appeared in her first show aged four.
During her time at Julie Young Dance Studios in Perth, she made regular appearances in the town centre and gave performances at theatres across the country, including the famed Saddler’s Wells in London.
The former pupil of Moncrieff Primary School and Perth High School said of her place: “Obviously, I’m a wee bit nervous, but I’ve been buzzing since receiving my acceptance letter.”
“I had thought about studying dance full-time since the start of my fifth year at school. I wasn’t very academic and wanted to do something that I enjoyed.
“I hope to develop my skills and improve on styles with which I’m not so familiar and comfortable and hope it leads to a professional career.
“I’d love to travel the world on cruise ships, appear in music videos, or be a backing dancer.’’
