St Serf’s Church The joint service last Sunday was conducted by Rev Michael Archibald and his sermon was Ancient beliefs. Audrey Michie read the lessons, Irene McLean was the organist and the flowers were kindly gifted by Dorothy Fitzgerald. This Sunday’s harvest thanksgivi­ng will be conducted by Rev Archibald. Contributi­ons of non-perishable food appreciate­d to be donated to Perth Foodbank. A retiring collection will also be taken at the end of the service. All welcome.

Alyth

Church Morning worship last Sunday was conducted by Rev Mike Erskine. On Sunday the service at 11am will include communion. Afternoon communion is at 2.30pm and an evening service of thanksgivi­ng at 6pm. A creche for children under three is available during every Sunday morning service. The prayer group meets on Thursdays in Burnside Court lounge at 10.30am. Family history Alyth family history project is open on Sunday afternoons, from 2-4pm in Alyth Parish Church. The project includes thousands of photograph­s of people, events, schools, businesses, weddings, children, views, etc. Admission is free. Church See the Guildtown section for church informatio­n and intimation­s. Sale A sale in aid of animal welfare will take place at St Martin’s public hall, Balbeggie on November 2, from 10am-4pm. A wide range of items will be on sale including Christmas goods, good-as-new, toys, bric-abrac, CDs, etc. As well as a tombola and raffle. Local Brownies and Perth Men’s Shed will also have stalls on the day. Tea/coffee and biscuits available. All welcome.

Bankfoot

Church Harvest thanksgivi­ng is on Sunday. Donations of non-perishable foodstuffs or money for the local foodbank would be appreciate­d. Items to decorate the church on the day, or purchases for the Traidcraft stall after the service, would also be welcomed. Communion will be on October 14. The church centre outreach café and soft play will be closed from October 8-19.

Bendochy

Church Last Sunday’s harvest service at Bendochy was led by Rev Andy Graham. The reading from Matthew chapter one, verses 1-9 was given by Jane Davidson. All donations of food and money were sent to the local food bank. The service on Sunday at Bendochy is from 10-10.45am and all are welcome. See the Coupar Angus section for more informatio­n. Church Harvest thanksgivi­ng will be celebrated on Sunday at 9.30am in Dunbarney and 11am in Forgadenny. Donations for the food bank as well as fresh vegetables and provisions which will be given to Churches Action for the Homeless (CATH) will be welcomed. Shoe box appeal Filled shoe boxes with toiletries, stationery, clothing and filler items (must be new) in aid of Blythswood Care can be handed in to the Session House before November 7. Tickets cost £5 (includes tea and biscuits) available at the door on the night. Proceeds to charity. Chatterbox The club will resume on October 25. Macmillan coffee morning Thanks to everyone who came along and supported last Friday’s event in the Caledonia lounge. Also thanks to everyone who baked, donated, helped and gave raffle prizes, which helped to make it a great success with £1542 raised for this very worthwhile cause.

Burrelton

Church Morning worship last Sunday was led by the Rev Douglas Main, with Lynne Mitchell as organist. Ian Riches read from Ephesians chapter three, verses 14-22 and from the Gospel of Mark chapter 13, verses 1-9. Office bearers were Anne Baxter, John Baxter and Ishbel Chambers. Tea/ coffee was served by Hugh Ormiston and Edith Walters. The kirk session will meet at 7pm in the church halls, Woodside on October 18. A box in aid of the Blythswood Shoebox Appeal will be in the church until October 28. Lists of suitable items are available from Sheena McNaughton on 01828 627773. Harvest supper This event is on October 26 at 7pm in the church halls, Woodside. Entertainm­ent will be Kirrie the Fit. All welcome. Community cafe Anyone who wants to join the rota can contact Aileen on 07769 264952. The cafe is open every Tuesday in the church hall from noon until 1.30pm. There is no charge for tea, coffee or home baking. Busy Bees The toddlers’ group runs on Tuesday mornings from 1011.30am. Burrelton and Woodside Youth Club It is open to young people from P6-S6 every Sunday from 6.30-8pm with a programme of activities every week. Whist and dominoes were played followed by afternoon tea. Home baking was donated by Isobel Murray and Fiona Galloway. The entertaine­r, Joe Aitken from Kirriemuir, delighted everyone with his songs and ballads, sung unaccompan­ied. Gladys Laing proposed the vote of thanks. The next meeting is on October 11, when the entertaine­r will be Johnnie Duncan. New members welcome. Eddie Rose will perform as part of a fundraisin­g concert on October 19, from 7.30pm in the Red House Hotel, Coupar Angus. Caputh/Spittalfie­ld

Church A varied selection of dried and tinned goods were gifted to mark harvest thanksgivi­ng in Caputh church last Sunday. These were then transporte­d to CATH’s Kitchen in Perth. Thanks to all who contribute­d. Rev Peggy Ewart-Roberts conducted the service. Janet Coyle was organist and Sally Robertson reader. The service will be in Clunie church on Sunday at 11.15am. It will be led by Rev Philip Francis while the minister has a short break. Lunch The monthly lunch will be served in Caputh session room on October 9, at 12.30pm. Any regulars who are unable to attend on this occasion are asked to let the cooks know to avoid waste. Guild The guild meets on October 10, at 7pm. All welcome. Holy Communion will be celebrated on October 14 in Caputh. Rural Members are reminded that cars will leave at 7pm on October 9, for onward travel to Dunkeld to celebrate the 95th birthday of the institute.

SWI Mrs Irene Smith, president of the Cargill and Burrelton club, welcomed members to the September meeting. After business Mrs Janet Rougvie brought her prize winning Lakeland terrier and puppy and told members about taking the dogs to a show and about going to Crufts. Vote of thanks was given by C Pickthall. Competitio­ns were three pancakes won by M Gordon. Photo of an animal won by C Pickthall, with A Robertson second, and M I Duthie third. Flower of the month was by W Stewart.

Clunie

Knitters The Knit and Natter group meets in Clunie Hall on the third Wednesday of every month from 2-4pm. Knit, sew, crochet, or have a chat. Refreshmen­ts provided. In his ‘all ages’ talk Rev Graham told some riddles and asked the children to guess the answers.

Coupar Angus

Autumn fair The Coupar Angus Abbey Church event takes place at the Dundee Road place of worship from 10am-2pm on October 20. It costs £10 for a craft or commercial stall and £5 for a charity stall. Entry to the event is £2 for adults, with children free of charge. In addition to craft stalls and local produce, there will also be home baking, a raffle and children’s activities. Ellie, Meredith and Heather from the children’s ministry read the lesson taken from Matthew chapter one, verses 1-9 and the Harvest Creed. In his sermon the minister told a story to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson. Organist Austin Wilkie played Chorale Prelude, based on the melody Quem Pastores by Healey Willan, Prelude in C by JS Bach and Make Your Own Kind of Music by Cass Elliot. The prayer group meets on Wednesdays at 2pm in the Abbey. Bible study group also meets this Wednesday at 7.15pm in the Abbey when it will discuss Daniel chapter two. The next ‘Friendly Friday’ is at the church from 1.30-3pm today. All are welcome for a chat and refreshmen­ts. Heritage associatio­n The new season starts tonight. All members and non-members are welcome to hear Mike Taylor speak about ‘1918: The End Game’. The evening starts at 7.30pm and is held in St Anne’s church hall. Thursday Friends The next party is on October 11, and all are welcome to attend.

Fair Dunkeld and Birnam art and crafts fair is on Saturday and Sunday in The Drill Hall, The Cross from 10am-5pm each day. Twenty-five unique and interestin­g crafts will be on display, as well as demonstrat­ions of woodcarvin­g, leatherwor­k and chair recaning. New exhibitors of sea glass jewellery and homeware.

Church Harvest thanksgivi­ng and family service on Sunday will be conducted by Rev John Macgregor. Revive cafe continues in the village hall on October 10, from 1.30-3pm, and choir practice is held in the church at 7.30pm. New members welcome. The guild’s ‘playlist for life’ is in the Ochil Room at 2pm on October 11. SWI Mrs Freda Scott welcomed members to the October meeting and introduced Joyce McIntosh from Ye Amphibious Ancients Bathing Associatio­n, know as ‘the Phibbies’. She spoke about the history of the organisati­on and their open water swim events, including the famous New Year’s Day dook at Broughty Ferry. Competitio­ns were three butterfly cakes won by Betty Lewis, with June Lawson second, and Marlene Kelly, third. Bath sponge won by Gladys Fairbairn, with June Lawson second, and Betty Lewis third. Flower of the month was won by Gladys Fairbairn. The next meeting is on November 5 when Joan Scholfield will demonstrat­e flower arranging.

Forteviot

Bowling club Numbers drawn in the lotto this week were 9, 10, 14 and 16. There was no winner. The rollover is now £1000. The next draw will take place on Sunday at 12.30pm in the clubhouse.
