Gunnion: Camelon will be tough test

-

Jeanfield boss Ross Gunnion reckons this weekend’s opponents Camelon are serious challengers for the East of Scotland Conference C title.

Hailing from the Falkirk area, they made the move away from Junior football at the same time as Swifts and are a well-known quantity.

Gunnion has been most impressed with Camelon’s improvement in recent years, however he remains optimistic about his men picking up a positive result.

Swifts, who have their own title aspirations, hit the road looking to maintain an unbeaten start to the league season. And Gunnion said: “Camelon are arguably the most improved team we’ve come up against in the last two years.

“The management team have been gradually building a squad capable of competing for honours in the close season.

“They have added quality to the attacking line-up and are capable of challenging for the Conference C title this season.

“Without doubt the ex-Junior teams in this division are proving to be the strongest and that won’t change with Camelon.”

The Perth side knocked nine beyond Craigroyston without reply last weekend.

“I was delighted with our performance last Saturday and I think that it’s something which has been threatening for a while now,” Gunnion added.

“We have been creating a large amount of chances in each game but only taking a small percentage of those chances.

“That said, and without being disrespectful to Craigroyston, Camelon will be much more organised and chances will not come as easily this Saturday.

“The players are all training hard and most have been getting game time of late so the squad is hungry and motivated.

“We talked at length about the importance of a squad this season and that’s definitely what’s required when games come around so quickly.” Swifts boss Gunnion reckons Camelon are title challengers
