McGowan and Clark on duty for Scotland’s under-19 squad

-

St Johnstone Women have two players on international duty during the break from league action.

Hannah Clark was the latest to be called into the national under-19s squad for preparation matches ahead of next year’s Euro Championships.

Clark joins team-mate Rebecca McGowan in the Scottish squad and that is a proud moment for Saints’assistant boss John Fettes.

He said:“There’s the international break for the under-19s where we have Hannah Clark and Rebecca McGowan involved in that.

“It’s a great honour for the players. Leah Fleming was unfortunate to be injured because I think she would be involved as well. It’s fantastic for the players and the club. It shows they can get the opportunity if they continue to do well at the club.

“They are working very hard to get in the St Johnstone team and stay in it. That has been reflected by their call-up.”

Saints lost out 2-0 against Edinburgh University Hutchison Vale last weekend.

The second half performance was more promising for Fettes, but it was a disappointing afternoon.

“Edinburgh were the better team in the first half and had a number of chances,”he said. “But the second half was like night and day, albeit we couldn’t get that elusive equaliser.

“We tried to continue the performance levels of the Motherwell and the Glasgow Girls game.

“It’s difficult when you have a relatively

Hannah Clark was included in the Scotland under-19 squad young team because you get inconsistency at times.

“We’ll keep plugging away and move onto the next game and see what that brings. We have a two week break now. We’ll train and make sure we are ready for the Kilmarnock game on October 21.”

When players return, it’s a case of finishing as high up the table as possible. Saints currently sit fourth.

“There are two games and we are aiming to finish as high up the league as we possibly can,”Fettes went on.

“We’ll be trying to beat our points total from last year, that is what we deem to be a success. It’s about making improvements year on year.

“We probably could have done certain things better but, with two games left, there is still a lot to play for.

“The break isn’t ideal but we just have to deal with it.”
