The mum of Lily Douglas has lauded the incredible generosity of those who have helped her daughter with her cancer treatment.

Lily (11) is due to start cancer treatment in Marbella, Spain, after being diagnosed with lung cancer last month.

●Full story page 6 told the PA even though the horrific incident happened over a month ago now, it still seems fresh in her mind as she urged anyone with information about the two men seen with the dog to contact the council so they can be traced.

Recalling what her neighbours told her shortly after witnessing the attack on September 27, she said: “One of my neighbours heard something - she thought it was just two dogs carrying on but it was actually my cat getting attacked.

“Another neighbour saw my cat getting thrown up in the air twice by a Rottweiler. And then another neighbour said they saw two guys in their twenties put a lead on the dog and walk away laughing.

“That’s the worst thing about it – they walked away laughing. They thought it was funny. We just couldn’t believe it. It’s terrible. That dog should have been on a lead.

“My biggest worry now is that this dog has a taste for blood. It could go for another dog or a child next time.

“We went to the police about it but they told us to go to the dog wardens, which we did. They want to trace these guys to make sure the dog is kept under control.

“We think they’re from the North

Muirton area. We got an address for one of them but it turned out to be a false address. The wardens are still looking for them.”

A council spokesperson confirmed: “PKC is continuing to investigate this matter, and is appealing to the public for any information they may have which will enable the council to trace the owner of the dog.

“Anyone with any information which they think may help with the investigation should e-mail dogcontrol@pkc.gov.uk.

“Any details we receive will be treated in the strictest confidence.”

The spokesperson added: “The council would like to remind dog owners that their pets must be kept under control and would advise them to keep the dogs on a lead in designated pedestrian zones as well as on land where livestock and cats can be present.”
