‘We can’t thank everybody enough’

Lily (11) heads to Spain for new cancer treatment

- Robbie Chalmers

The mum of Lily Douglas has lauded the incredible generosity of those who have helped her daughter with her cancer treatment.

Jane Douglas spoke at a cheque presentation at Next Home Estate Agents in Perth where staff donated £1313 to Lily’s cause.

Representatives from St Johnstone Football Club also donated a signed football shirt for auction.

Lily (11) is due to start cancer treatment at a clinic in Marbella, Spain this week after she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of lung cancer last month - weeks after she was given the all-clear from stage four Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.

Jane said: “It was only ten days ago I decided we were going to Spain and how quick everyone has come together to raise that money for her is incredible.

“She is blessed to have that option. We just want the best treatment for her.

“We are lucky because there are people out there with cancer that can’t get help. For that we can’t thank everybody enough for what they have done. We are very grateful.”

The centre promises to offer an alternative treatment to chemotherapy, with one of the facility’s researchers winning the Nobel Prize for medicine this year.

“When we get to the clinic they will

take Lily’s blood and send it across to Germany where they create a vaccine,” Jane explained.

“It’s like the flu vaccine that will have cancer in it and it will then go back into her system.

“But this will take 10 days and within that ten days Lily will be getting hydrotherapy which will give her good oxygen supply right into her lungs.

“And they will also help build her immune system up, so she will be getting a lot of things through diet. “Eating clean, like a real vegan diet. “Then on day 10 the vaccine comes back and she will get injected with the vaccine that will help fight the cancer in her body.

“What they do say is she will feel well because her immune system will be better than it has ever been.

“When she comes back, they will try not to scan her for three months because the radiation attacks her immune system.

“So we need to wait three months before we get scans from the doctors and hopefully we will see the tumour shrinking.

“They reckon within three to six months she could be cancer free but we will see.”

“And if this doesn’t work we will go back to chemotherapy and the hospital have said they will work with us.”

Jane and Lily arrived in Spain on Sunday and will be there for about two weeks.
