Crieff deserves far more investment

-

I could not help but read Mr Stephen Leckie’s remarks regarding his application to build a £100 million expansion to the Crieff Hydro complex.

It would seem that, yet again, Perth and Kinross Council has objected .

Just what is the stated objection?

Is the council just that wee bit frightened that Crieff might start to improve its position in the holiday season stakes?

Over the years, Crieff has lost seven hotels and goodness knows how many B&Bs, and don’t forget the promised supermarket.

Crieff is holding back on tourist business in particular thanks to Perth and District Council.

Anything Perth wants, Perth gets.

Now I have no objection to that. Perth is a nice place and shop there.

However, that’s because we don’t have a choice in Crieff.

Some shops are having to close down and that is becoming very obvious.

It is a good job that we do have the Crieff Srathearn Hydro complex, simply because of the business it brings to the town and of course the employment it provides as well.

It’s time something was done about Perth council’s attitude to improvements in the Crieff area.

Give us all a break. Just end it on March 29 and say a final farewell to that inefficient, expensive and corrupt bureaucracy laughingly labelled the European Union.

In the Perthshire Advertiser on October 19, I read of the Dragonfly Nails and Beauty Salon in Blairgowrie and of the owner, Pamela Brown, who has been inspired to raise money for the Scottish Poppy Appeal.

Indeed, as the headline states, you’ve got to hand it to the salon poppy fundraisers.

With my poetic pen, I pay tribute to the month of remembrance soon upon us:

Soon will come remembrance month

When wintry winds blow

When all the leaves shed from the tree And hills first kissed by snow; When the shades of autumn gone And leaves lie still and dead So bright against the fading bloom Shall be the poppies red; To think of all who have died In wars abroad and home From the Battle of the Bulge And the horrors of the Somme; We reflect why wars arise Because they have to cease But at such cost Our freedom and our peace; Whatever we make of our lives We thank God and pray They never know tomorrow For us the gave their day; So let us pray as Burns said Throughout our world wide Man to man brothers be And that out peace abide.
