Ghosts and ghouls came out to play on Saturday, October 27 as the city centre was transformed into a haunted town.

The activities included a Hallowe’en parade, a zombie run and spooky tents, as well as the annual Hallowe’en parade, onstage entertainment and a lot of dressing up.

Many youngsters and big kids at heart donned their scariest outfits for the night and awards were handed out to the best fancy dress costumes.

The crowds were entertained with acts on the community stage, set up on Horsecross Plaza outside Perth Concert Hall.

Entertainment came from local bands such as the Irritable Owls, and young dance groups such as Julie Young Dancers, Inspire Dance Studios, Ad-Lib Theatre Arts and the Letham Majorettes.

And there was some traditional music from Perth and District Pipe Band, who led the Hallowe’en parade through the city centre streets in scary costumes.

The Hallowe’en celebrations over the weekend is just the first in a bumper Winter Festival programme.

Activities and celebrations in this year’s Winter Festival include the Christmas lights switch-on, St Andrew’s Day celebrations and the popular light nights at the NorieMillar Walk.

The Winter Festival runs right through until February, ending with Chinese New Year and St Valentine’s Day fun.

PA photographer Richard Wilkins was at the Hallowe’en fright night to capture all the ghoulish goings-on.
