Pipe replacement work begins

- Robbie Chalmers

The SGN group have begun pipe replacement works in Gannochy, Kinnoull and Bridgend that will continue into the new year.

The gas company is upgrading the gas network along 19 roads as part of a £457,000 project.

Following discussions with Perth and Kinross Council, the project started on Monday, October 22 and there will be works in the area until the end of January 2019.

A spokesperson on behalf of SGN said:“We manage the network that distributes natural and green gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses across Scotland and the south of England.

“We also provide the gas emergency service in these areas.

“We’ll shortly begin work to upgrade the gas network in the Annat Road area of Perth, as part of a £457,000 project. This involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.”

Work begins in Brands Brae, Farm Road and Gannochy Edge and over the next few months, with engineers progressing through the following roads: Gannochy Walk, Gannochy Green, Gannochy Court, Gannochy Corner, Gannochy Avenue, Gannochy Road, Starthview Terrace, Fitzroy Terrace, Haddon Road, Comelybank, Dublin Road, Annat Road, Pitcullen Terrace, Pitcullen Crescent, Scone Road and Pedwarden Road.

SGN continued:“We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating, however, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years.

“This means once the work has been completed, Perth homes and businesses will enjoy the benefits of a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.

“We always aim to minimise disruption and we will make every effort to ensure our works are completed as soon as possible.”
