As Hallowe’en approaches it turned into a horror show from the penalty spot with two second-half attempts from 12 yards failing to find the net.
But, in all honesty, it mattered little by the time the final whistle sounded as goals from David Wotherspoon and Matty Kennedy bagged the three points.
This was a comfortable victory – it should have been more – against a St Mirren side who made goalkeeper Zander Clark endure a monotonous afternoon.
For Kennedy, who was deployed up front, this was a special day, netting his first goal for the club in the Scottish Premiership.
“I’ve had a few efforts over the weeks where goalkeepers are making last-ditch saves and it’s just not going in,” Kennedy told the PA.
“We work on them in training and I knew if the ball was played back post that Jason had a good chance of getting on it.
“Hopefully getting the goal on Saturday will kick me off for the season and I can help the team get some more goals now.
“We did well during the game and it opened up a lot in the second half which gave myself and Tony a lot more space on the ball.
“We got a lot of joy in the second half. We kept in it in the first half but I don’t think Zander had a save to make.”
