Defending champs start with a bang

-

The newly revamped Clubsport Indoor Cricket League has kicked-off in blistering style at Bell’s Sport Centre.

And Breadalbane began the defence of the title they won last winter in the best possible fashion.

The Highland Perthshire side recorded two wins over Perth Doo’cot and The Wildcards respectively.

Match one saw a strong fielding and bowling display which restricted Perth to just 39 runs.

Six run outs and six catches were at the heart of a fine all round performance.

Breadalbane, batting second, then blasted their way to a total of 95, thanks mainly to an opening stand of 64 between Ethan Rae and Andrew Duncan Millar.

Next came an equally strong display againstTheWildcards.

This time, asked to bat first, Breadalbane notched 88 runs and restricted their opponents to just 44 in the field.

Once again, regular wickets, catches and run-outs kept The Wildcards from any realistic chance of overhauling the total.

The other two matches were both much tighter, with mixed fortunes for the Caley South team. Game one saw them lose a real nail-biter to The Wildcards.

After posting 45 runs, they couldn’t prevent The Wildcards from edging to a victory by just two runs.

In game two, though, they held their nerve in an exciting game, posting 81 and managing to restrict Perth Doo’cot to 77 in reply.

Round two of the Clubsport Indoor Cricket League is this Thursday at Bell’s Sports Centre.
