Cycle casualties helped by crew

-

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) was one of two helicopter air ambulances deployed to a serious one vehicle road traffic collision between Aberfeldy and Kenmore at the weekend.

SCAA worked at the scene with colleagues from a trauma team and other emergency services to tend the injured, with one casualty airlifted and another two going by road ambulance to advanced hospital care.

The past week’s mission log has also seen SCAA head to the Borders where a group of cyclists were involved in an accident on the A701 near Broughton.

The cyclists collided with each other with one sustaining head injuries.

SCAA was first on the scene but worked with land crew colleagues and an Emergency Medical Retrieval Service (EMRS) team before airlifting the most seriously injured to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Other call outs this week included a cardiac emergency and a three-car road traffic collision in Highland Perthshire.

SCAA supporters and fundraisers used every possible means of transport to support their fundraising efforts which resulted in donations to the charity this week.

Alyth’s Iain Appleby led a Caledonian Kings team in a trio of SCAA branded cars in the recent 2 Ball Banger Rally to raise funds for the life-saving charity.

The cars all successfully completed the 1200 mile challenge, taking in nine countries across Europe in four days, driving home more than £8500 for SCAA.

And Bankfoot JAC set out on foot on a sponsored walk recently. The young farmers’ footsore efforts raised £448 for SCAA.

It was motorcycles that were the preferred mode of transport for the Curvy Riders Motorcycle Club who raised £39.51 at a recent ladies night.

And if you were flying in or out of Edinburgh Airport on Monday, October 29, you may have been one of the kind commuters who contributed to the £569.24 raised through a SCAA bucket collection in the main public area.

Continuing this week’s transport theme - NFU Perth members set out on a tractor road race and ploughed a further £3496 into SCAA’s funds.

Off the road, thanks also to residents at Glenearn Court in Crieff who donated £50 to SXAA from a recent afternoon tea.

And members of Strathearn Bridge Club in Auchterarder played a winning hand when they donated £250 to SCAA as the president’s chosen charity.

An Aberfeldy lady kindly identified SCAA as “a worthy cause”to receive a £149.90 donation in memory of a loved one.

Locally-placed SCAA collection cans spilling out their muchappreciated contents for counting this week include those from: The Green Welly Stop, Tyndrum £40.50; the Co-op, Bridge of Earn £30.22; Sainsburys, Perth £296.17; Broxden Service Station £34.70; the Riverbank Cafe, Pitlochry £50.96; BP filling station, TheTriangle, Inveralmond, Perth £231.99 and Muddy Boots, Cupar £30.76.

A final collection can from Brig Farm Shop, Bridge of Earn, contained £11.20, bringing their total raised over the years to a tasty £1778.97.

This year’s SCAA Christmas cards are now available both online through SCAA’s website and at the charity’s office at Perth Airport.

The cards - priced £4.50 for a pack of 10 - are also on sale at the AK Bell Library from October 23 to December 13.

Look out for SCAA volunteers with collection buckets if you’re shopping at the House of Bruar at Blair Atholl today and tomorrow (Nov 9 and 10).
