Huntingtower Castle. Picture by Marysia Macfarlane Families will be able to explore a popular Perth castle for free this St Andrew’s Day.
In a bid to mark the patron saint’s day, Historic Environment Scotland is giving away thousands of free tickets to some of its top heritage attractions on Saturday, November 24 and Sunday, November 25.
Amongst the attractions on this list is Huntingtower Castle, home to one of the oldest painted ceilings in Scotland with its unusual tower house and the secret hiding place of the Ruthven treasures.
Those wanting to take advantage of the free tickets must apply before 5pm on Friday, November 23.
Stephen Duncan, director of commercial and tourism and Historic Environment Scotland, launched the campaign earlier this week at Dunfermline Abbey, which is part of a brand new Robert the Bruce trail.
He said: “I am delighted to announce details of this year’s ticket giveaway, which provides the public with free access to 35 of our winter ticketed attractions over the St Andrew’s Day weekend.
“Exploring our sites is a great way to learn more about Scotland’s fascinating past and we want to encourage communities to take a step back in time and learn more about the significant historic stories in their local area.’’
