Fine for female who got into fight

- Court reporter

A 20-year-old woman, who hopes to pursue a career in social services, became involved in a“stand-up fight” with another female in a Perth street in the early hours.

Perth Sheriff Court was told victim Abbey Prince had been at the Ice Factory nightclub with two friends and was walking towards the city centre about 3am.

She became involved in an argument with Olivia Clark - and the fracas developed from there.

Depute fiscal Michael Sweeney said the accused was shouting and swearing at Miss Prince before the two “clashed”and ended up on the ground.

The fight was captured on mobile phone footage and the matter was reported to the police.

The incident led to Clark, of Kinclaven Gardens, Murthly, being fined £180 this week after she pled guilty to an amended charge of breach of the peace.

She had initially denied that on January 28 this year, at Marshall Place, Perth, she assaulted Abbey Prince by tripping her, knocking her to the ground, repeatedly punching her on the head and repeatedly striking her head on the ground, all to her injury.

She admitted a heavily amended charge of shouting and swearing and engaging in a stand-up fight with the other woman.

Mr Sweeney said no proceedings were taken against the other woman.

Solicitor Paul Ralph said the argument came about because the complainer had made a remark to a friend of Miss Clark’s about clothing.

“She took up the cudgels on behalf of her friend.”

The accused is currently on a full-time apprenticeship and then hopes to go to college and become involved in social services.

“She’s got herself off to a rocky start and I expect she will have some explaining to do further down the line.”

Noting the accused was a first offender, Sheriff Pino Di Emidio told her:“You were foolish to become involved.”

Because there seemed to have been a“degree of reciprocity”involved in the incident, he restricted the financial penalty.

The accused was allowed three months to pay.
