Community hits out at roadworks

Misery for motorists for months

- Rachel Clark

Members of the community have hit out at the disruption major roadworks are causing in Perth.

Roadworks to the Glasgow Road at Cherrybank are due to finish on Sunday, December 2, but have caused misery for motorists for months.

Cllr Willie Wilson, who represents Perth City South at Perth and Kinross Council, and local resident Liz Barrett, have both raised concerns on the impact the disruption is having.

Traffic lights are being installed on the Glasgow Road between its junctions with Oakbank Place and Necessity Brae as part of the new housing development at Cherrybank by Persimmon Homes.

The pair now say this disruption is having an adverse affect on local businesses and say they have not received a response when they asked when the work is expected to be completed.

Liz Barrett said: “The works started very slowly, and nearly three weeks ago we asked Persimmon to confirm that they will be completed on schedule. “We have had no response. “We’ve also asked about the expected date for completion for tree planting and landscaping, so that these can get established before the worst of the winter weather.”

Liberal Democrat councillor Willie Wilson added: “Clearly the work is highly disruptive to traffic Cllr Willie Wilson and Liz Barrett
