A diamond wedding gift for a great cause
Frank and Sheila Barrie recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary with a big party and in lieu of gifts, sent over £1000 to Poppy Scotland.
Sheila and Frank Barrie, both now 79, got married on October 25, 1958 at Riverside Methodist Church in Blairgowrie, where Frank is originally from.
Frank proposed over the phone. At the time, phone calls were listened into. The chap listening told Sheila to answer quickly and put Frank out of his misery!
The pair were married at 19 and went on to have five children and currently have nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
To celebrate 60 years of marriage, family and friends were invited to the Grampian Hotel in Perth on October 27 for a big party, with approximately 120 people attending.
There was a DJ, who played music from the 1950s all the way up to the modern day. A piper who was very good and a close family friend played in their honour.

Sheila and Frank Barrie with their son Mark present their wonderful £1065 donation to Poppy Scotland the support from guests, with some donating as much as £100.
The grand sum of £1065 was raised in lieu of gifts, and Frank and Sheila thanked everybody and wished to put it towards a charity that helps Scottish members of the armed forces. They chose Poppy Scotland, a cause very close to their hearts.
Frank was in the Queen’s Own Highlanders and also served in the Black Watch all together for 23 years. Their son, Frank’s dad, four brothers and Frank’s brother all served in the Armed Forces, and all came home.
