Employees from Highland Spring in Blackford travelled to Moshi in Tanzania to build houses for vulnerable families with The Vine Trust Employees at a Perthshire company recently travelled to Tanzania to build homes for vulnerable families.

Through a partnership with the charity The Vine Trust, 18 members of staff from Highland Spring in Blackford recently undertook the journey to Moshi in Tanzania for two weeks.

They spent the fortnight building homes for families after 12 months of fundraising saw them gather £42,000.

During their time in Moshi, they dug, cleared ground, carried raw materials, built foundations, laid bricks and spent time with the local community.

The houses will now support four orphaned children who are in need of help.

Les Montgomery, chief executive of Highland Spring, said: “We feel extremely privileged to have had the opportunity to take part in such an inspiring trip to Tanzania.

“It has been incredible to see how bare land can be transformed into a house in a matter of weeks for orphaned children in such great need.

“Every employee who attended the trip, including myself, has been inspired by the people of Moshi and would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the last 12 months to enable this trip to happen.

“We look forward to exploring other ways we can support The Vine Trust and their fantastic work in the future.”

The Vine Trust looks to provide medical, home-building and care support to communities living in severe poverty in both Tanzania and Peru.

Louise Campbell, expeditions programme manager at the charity, said: “The work the Highland Spring expedition team has done over the last couple of weeks, and in the year of fundraising leading up to their expedition, has been incredible.”
