Generosity of folk has been incredible

-

The Scottish Poppy Appeal in the Auchterarder area in this centenary year of the WWI armistice has been remarkably successful.

People have been very generous.

A total of £6180 has been sent to the Earl Haig Fund from the local community, a 19 per cent increase on 2017 and 37 per cent up on the average over the previous eight years. I am really grateful to the volunteers who have given their time and shoe leather in carrying out house-to-house and street collections, including the Army Cadet Force.

It is estimated that well over 400 people attended the service of remembrance and the collection from the ecumenical service in the parish church was £970. This year over 50 outlets presented poppy cans stretching from Gleneagles Hotel to the Aberuthven Village Shop. I would like to thank all of them – hotels, shops, cafes, bars, care homes, the health centre and other organisations in the Lang Toon’s area. Grateful thanks must also go to those in the community who donated to the appeal. Their generosity will provide vital help and allows Poppyscotland to provide lifechanging support to our armed forces community. If any local reader would like to help with next year’s appeal in some way, please contact David Homewood on 01764 663049. David Homewood RBL Poppy Appeal area organiser Abbey Park Auchterarder

Donationthanks

Last Saturday Mary’s Meals volunteers in the Lang Toon together with Our Lady of Perpetual Succour RC Church and the help of the regular supporters in the town, organised a ‘good as new’ sale and coffee morning in the Aytoun Hall.

This was something of a pilot effort, which proved to be both popular and successful.

The venture raised £1600 for the Mary’s Meals charity after overheads had been deducted.

As one of the main organisers I would be pleased if I could express through your newspaper my sincere and grateful thanks to everyone who came along to help run the event, those who donated items for the sale and, not least, those who attended on the day. Noreen Homewood Abbey Park Auchterarder
