seemed to agree, saying it was the best display he’d ever seen.

Councillor Murray Lyle, leader of Perth and Kinross Council, said: “I want to say a huge thank you to all the council staff, performers and visitors who helped make Saturday’s Christmas lights switch-on event another massive success.

“The buzz in the city at the weekend was incredible and proves once again that Perth is the place to be this winter.”

Councillor Angus Forbes, convener of the environment and infrastructure committee for the council, said: “Official calculations of the economic impact of this weekend and crowd numbers will be reported to the council in the new year, but anyone in Perth yesterday will be in no doubt that audience numbers for the whole day were at least as high as last year’s 80,000.

“With more events to come in this year’s busy Winter Festival programme, including the St Andrew’s Day Scottish Festival on December 2, the Santa Run on December 8, and the return of the Perth Riverside Light Nights in January, there’s lots more to bring people back to Perth again and again this winter.”

The light switch-on was just part of a whole weekend of events in the city and Perth and Kinross Council is encouraging everyone who attended to complete a feedback survey of their experiences online.

The survey will help inform the Winter Festival economic impact study which will be reported to the environment and infrastructure committee in early 2019.
