Museum plan for hall

Charles Kinnoull and Murray Lyle Perth and Kinross Council has submitted a planning applicatio­n to transform Perth City Hall into a museum.

The move followed last week’s Tay Cities Deal, with the facility set to benefit from £10 million in funding.

The public can now comment on what they want to see happen at the city hall.

Council leader Murray Lyle was at the building on Monday to highlight the work that will take place. He said:“I am delighted that people in Perth and the surroundin­g area will see renewed vibrancy in the city centre, thanks to funding being confirmed for the redevelopm­ent of Perth’s museum portfolio.

“Perth and Kinross Council’s commitment to investing in buildings which promote the cultural economy means the city hall project is able to move forward immediatel­y.

“It is a key element of the city’s ongoing cultural transforma­tion, which will bring people into the city to enjoy food, music, art and heritage.

“Feedback from local residents and businesses is really important to help us shape this exciting project and I hope as many people a possible will take the time to share their views on the plans.”

Culture Perth and Kinross, the charitable trust which runs museums on behalf of the council, will be engaging with people across Perth and Kinross to gather input into the exhibition­s and content people want to see in their museum.

Its CEO Helen Smout said: “The transforma­tion of the city hall will not only provide an exciting home for the council’s amazing collection but will also allow encourage visitors to explore Perth’s rich cultural heritage.”
