Blairgowrie Juniors manager Mark Brash hailed the fighting spirit of his players to edge out East Craigie on Saturday.

The Davie Park men travelled through to Dundee hoping to bounce back from last week’s disappointing defeat against Forfar Albion.

And boss Brash got his wish with Blair producing a determined performance to bag a valuable three points in the Premier League North.

Experienced duo Darren Neave and Gary Axworthy netted the allimportant goals in the 2-1 win.

“It was a great result, not the greatest performance, but we dug in and ground out the result which was really pleasing,”Brash said.

“The boys were tremendous especially as we had to make three forced changes because of injuries, two in the first half.

“Darren and Gary both scored great goals and their experience will be vital to us this year. Both put in assured performances and it was great to have them both on the park, something we haven’t had the luxury of this season.”

Blair’s East Region League Cup tie with Dundee North End this coming weekend has been switched to Davie Park, Brash confirmed.

He added:“We’re looking forward to next week against North End. The game has been switched to a home tie so we’re eager to have a go at them.

“We play them twice in three weeks and will have played them four times before Christmas. So the boys know exactly what to expect.”

Elsewhere in the Premier League North, Aaron Carlon netted a hat-trick as Scone Thistle smashed nine beyond Coupar Angus without reply.

Arran McKay and Craig Mitchell both scored a brace, while Max Avolio’s strike and an own goal piled more misery on the visitors at Farquharson Park.

In the East Region Cup, Kinnoull advanced into the third round after seeing off Brechin Vics 3-2.

The Tulloch Park men had raced into a three-goal lead in the first half with Mark Smith’s double followed up by a goal from Liam Woolley.

But Vics would hit back early in the second half before adding another just shy of the hour mark.

Determined Kinnoull would hold on to their lead, however, to secure a ticket for the next round.

Luncarty’s Scottish Junior Cup journey was brought to an end when they were knocked out of the competition at the fourth round stage.

West Championship side St Roch’s ran out 3-0 winners in Glasgow and Bleachers boss Jon Kelly had few complaints about the result.

“They were more clinical but the score line certainly does not reflect how the game went,”Kelly explained to the Perthshire Advertiser.

“St Roch’s were very dangerous going forward and I was impressed with the pace they had in the final third.

“I said to the players after the game that I thought they gave everything they had so I had no complaints there.”
