Eve takes positives from Europeans

-

Perthshire curler Eve Muirhead was taking the positives from her performance at the European Championships.

The Blair Atholl skip’s team of Jennifer Dodds, Vicki Chalmers, Lauren Gray and Vicky Wright finished sixth in Tallinn, Estonia.

There was disappointment at being unable to advance to the semi-finals and retain her title but Eve was remaining upbeat.

Hopes of advancing to the last four were brought to an end in a last stone extra end defeat against Switzerland.

“Obviously we are absolutely gutted that we are out of the European Championships, but I think as a team we can take a lot of positives from this event,”Eve said. Eve is looking to build on the Europeans performance

“It was a game that came down to the last shot at an extra end and we have a lot that we can build on.

“We played a lot of great curling this week, but unfortunately we just seemed to be on the wrong side of the inch and gave up a few silly games during the week.”

Eve added:“Next week we head out to the World Cup and we will continue to build on the different things we have worked on with our coach Glenn (Howard).

“That will provide a base towards good things at the Scottish Championships and hopefully also the worlds.”

The team’s sixth place finish at the Europeans saw them secure a place for Scotland at the World Championships in Denmark next year.

British Curling’s performance director Graeme Thompson said:“The girls fought valiantly all week but unfortunately came out the wrong side of a couple of results, which meant they didn’t make the semi finals.

“However one of their main priorities at the Europeans was to qualify Scotland for the world champs.

“That is very important and they managed to do that, which has enabled us to be at the worlds in March in 2019.”
