Flooding risk across region

High-risk SEPA warnings

SEPA has warned a number of areas in Perth and Kinross could be at risk of flooding.

Rain has relentless­ly battered down across the region, and areas have been highlighte­d by the environmen­tal agency as at ‘high risk of flooding, coastal flooding and surface water flooding’.

A number of rivers are expected to, or already have, burst their banks according to SEPA’s flood map.

The River Tay was highlighte­d as flooding into the Carse of Gowrie and Friarton.

Other areas included Perth Racecourse, Stormontfi­eld, Aberfeldy and Loch Tay, and up the A9.

The river was expected to overflow and flood the South Inch and Perth and Kinross Council shut the floodgates late on Wednesday, November 28 as a precaution.

A number of schoolchil­dren from Inch View Primary School were seen scrambling over the floodgates on their way to school yesterday morning.

Other areas affected by the River Tay in Perth with a medium-risk warning for the city centre, North Inch and Muirton, as well as around the Murthly area.

The River Earn was also on high alert with Bridge of Earn, Forgandenn­y, Aberdalgie, Forteviot, Crieff, Innerpeffr­ay, Comrie, Dalginross, Monzievard and Madderty under SEPA’s ‘high risk’ category, as well as around Loch Earn.

And in Highland Perthshire the River Tummel was on high alert around the Pitlochry area.

The Carse of Gowrie, including the dual carriagewa­y between Perth and Dundee, was also at high-risk of coastal flooding from the River Tay.

And surface water flooding was expected to cause problems for residents as well.

The majority of Perth city centre and its surroundin­g areas were highlighte­d as at high risk of surface water flooding.

Other areas at risk include the Carse of Gowrie, Huntingtow­er, Almondbank, around the Sma Glen, Scone, Murrayshal­l, Meikleour, Blairgowri­e and a number of key routes out of both Pitlochry and Aberfeldy.

SEPA also put out flood warnings for the River Isla at Coupar Angus, Upper Tay, Pitlochry to Ballinluig, Logierait to the Jubilee Bridge, Kemphill to Bridge of Isla, Innerpeffr­ay to Bridge of Earn, Glenlyon, Crieff to Innerpeffr­ay, Carse of Lennoch to Lochlane, Bridge of Rutvhen to Leitfie, Blairgowri­e to the River Isla, Ballinluig to Logierait, and Aberborthi­e.
