Upgrades to popular route
A Perthshire path is to see £400,000 worth of upgrades next year.
Works are to begin on the NCN 77 cycle and foot path in Dunkeld in January.
The path, which runs from Dunkeld House Hotel to Jubilee Bridge, will be upgraded to improve accessibility and create a modern, multi-user path which will be suitable for walkers, cyclists and wheelchair users alike.
Works are expected to begin on Monday, January 21 and are scheduled to last 12 weeks. The path will be closed throughout the works.
Andrew Barrie, Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust’s strategic routes officer, who is managing the project, said: “This is a great opportunity to improve a well used section of path for all users and improve their experience.
“It will mean the section is closed for a number of weeks but it will be well worth the wait.”
A suggested alternative route during the closures for mountain bikers and walkers will be via the Inver and Fiddler’s paths.
And for touring and road bikes, the alternative route will be along Regional Route 83 which follows the old A9.
The work is being funded by Sustrans, who aim to improve outdoor accessibility, and is being delivered by Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust.
