Revive cafe is held in the village hall on Wednesday, December 12 from 1.30-3pm. Thursday, December 13 sees the guild’s Christmas tea party at 2pm.

Bowling Club Lotto The numbers drawn in the festive draw on Sunday were: Draw one 2, 3, 5 and 17; Draw two 2, 6, 7and 9; Draw three 2, 14, 17 and 18; Draw four 9, 12, 18 and 20. There was no winner. The rollover is now £1000. The next festive draw will take place on Sunday, December 9 at 9.30am in the clubhouse.

Kettins

Church Kettins Parish Hall is holding a coffee morning in Kettins Church hall on Saturday, December 8, between 10am and 11.30am. There will be stalls and the Christmas raffle will be drawn. Everyone welcome. Village lunch Monthly village lunches are now taking place in Kettins Church hall. The next lunch will be on Thursday, December 13, from noon until 1.30pm. All welcome.

Church The service for the first Sunday in Advent was led by Rev Peggy Ewart-Roberts and the sermon was by Rev Bill Ewart. The lessons from Jeremiah chapter 33, verses 14-16, and Luke chapter 21, verses 25-36, were read by Rev Tom Tait and the organist was Janet Coyle. On Sunday, December 9, at 4pm there will be a service of rememberin­g. This is a quiet, meditative, service to remember loved ones lost. All are welcome to attend. The joint lunch club is on Tuesday, December 11 at 12.30pm in Caputh Church session room. Sunday worship at Kinclaven Church is at 9.45am.

Reverend Stan Kennon BA BD was inducted to the Church of Scotland on Wednesday November 28.

Stan was brought up in Garelochhe­ad and attended secondary school in Helensburg­h.

He worked for eight years before training for the Church of Scotland ministry at New College, University of Edinburgh.

In 2000, he became a Royal Navy chaplain and as a result of his naval career and amongst his military decoration­s, he was awarded the Iraq and the Afghanista­n operationa­l medals.

After retiring from the Navy in 2016, Stan has worked in the linked parishes of Muirkirk and Old Cumnock Trinity in the Presbytery of Ayr as their locum minister.

Bowling Club Numbers in the lottery this week were 2, 15, 16 and 18. There was no winning line. Prize money next week will be £2000. Members are reminded that the annual general meeting is to be held in the Sports and Recreation Club on Sunday, December 9 at 2pm. Organisers hope that there will be a good turn out. Church The service on Sunday, December 9 is in Luncarty Curch Centre at 10am. All welcome. On Saturday, December 8 the Pins and Needles group are running a coffee morning from 10-11.30am. Christmas items and cake and candy will be on sale and there is also a raffle.

Madderty

Mid Strathearn Church The November meeting of the guild was held in Madderty Hall and opened by the president, Mrs Moir, with the devotions. She then introduced the speakers, Dr Joyce Deans and Anna Magnusson. Both are former pupils of Laurel Bank girls’ school and they talked of the time during World War II when the school was evacuated from Glasgow to Strathalla­n Castle and Auchterard­er House. Dr Deans had many amusing anecdotes from her time at the school but was also able to relate how life was geared towards the war effort. Dr Deans and Anna Magnusson have compiled a book of memories entitled ‘The Time of our Lives’, which records experience­s of that period. The two speakers were warmly thanked by Alison Pritchard. This was an open meeting and the guests enjoyed a cup of tea and cakes supplied by the ladies of the guild. This was followed by business matters and the meeting was then closed.

Bonus Ball The winner of last week’s TICC bonus ball was Julie Patrick on no 57. indebted to Rev Allan Wilson as interim moderator, and Rev Susan Thorburn as locum, for their guidance and profession­alism in bringing proceeding­s to this happy and very satisfacto­ry conclusion.
