Scone out to gain revenge over Harp

-

Sean Whitworth is looking to keep up his goalscoring form Scone Thistle are plotting another three-point Saturday to keep up their chase at the top of the Premier League North.

The Jags, who sit second and four points behind leaders Dundee North End, welcome Lochee Harp to Farquharson Park this weekend.

Manager Derek Lawson watched his players stage a second half revival to secure a 5-1 cup win against Arbroath Vics in their last fixture.

“Credit to the players again this week,” Lawson said. “I was happy enough with the performance, especially the second half.

“We dominated the game and created plenty of chances which was pleasing.

“Our focus now for this week is on a hard game on Saturday against Lochee Harp in the league.”

Scone lost out to Harp through in Dundee earlier in the season and forward Sean Whitworth wants no repeat.

He netted twice in last week’s win over Arbroath and is hoping to add to his 11-goal haul.

“I am expecting Lochee Harp to be hard-working, fit and competitive,” he explained to the PA.

“They score a lot of goals and can beat any team on their game but we are on a good run just now and playing really well.

“Hopefully that can continue and we can get a win to stay in second place. We have a really strong squad this season. I scored two at the weekend and I am now into double figures, which is a nice change.”

Luncarty and Kinnoull, meanwhile, are both looking ahead to East Region League Cup action on Saturday afternoon.

The Bleachers face a home match with East Craigie at Brownlands Park and need a victory to keep hopes of advancing from the section alive.

“Here we go again with East Craigie on Saturday, this being our fourth meeting of the season,” said manager Jon Kelly.

“They are always tough games but we know we must go out and win the game to stay alive in the tournament, so we will give it our best shot.

“Our squad is looking a bit healthier now and there is a nice feel about the place after last week’s win at Kinnoull.

“We have to go into the game with East Craigie with confidence. I intend to have a real go right from the start.”

Kinnoull travel to take on Rosyth and, despite beating them 7-1 earlier in the year, boss Alan Cameron is taking nothing for granted.

“Rosyth will have their full squad back this weekend so the previous match will have little or no bearing on this weekend’s game,” he said.

“We will have to be at our very best to take anything from the game but we travel with a full squad for the first time in a number of weeks.”
