Woodland bid is backed by community

-

The plans are said to be “progressing well” for both woodlands and the steering group’s project plans were “well received” at the Luncarty Community Council earlier this year.

A display of the history of both woodlands by the West Stormont Historical Society (WSHS) debuted at the Stanley Development Trust AGM on November 7 to bring more awareness to the sites.

The WSWG has been busy recruiting members, while gathering support on social media.

Further meetings and discussions with communities, businesses and other locals groups will take place in the coming months about their possible involvement with WSWG and their cause.

The group hosted free guided walks in both woodland areas back in October for members of the public when they were informed about the cultural and natural history of the two woodlands.

People were also encouraged to tell members what they know and like about the woods, as well as advise on improvements they would like to see.

The group’s spokesman said members were given a “helpful, informative and inspiring” tour of the woods by foresters.

They added: “All of this is working towards bigger community consultation activity in 2019.

“WSWH invites anyone with an interest in the prospect of our community owning these woodlands to get involved at any time.

“Anyone with special skills which could help in this amazing adventure should get in touch.”

West Stormont was a name used in medieval times to cover the parishes of Auchtergaven, Kinclaven, Logiealmond, Moneydie, Redgorton and the Murthly portion of Little Dunkeld.
