Club helps advance the status of women
by Soroptimist International: economic empowerment, education, environmental sustainability, food security and healthcare, and violence and conflict resolution.
“All Soroptimist work is linked to the sustainable development goals, whether it’s local, national or international. All projects work towards ending poverty, eradicating hunger, providing education for all and preserving the environment.”
This year members have collected bed linen, crockery and kitchenware for CATH starter packs, collected lightly used bras and new pants for Smalls For All, delivered Books Aloud sessions at local care homes, raised funds for the Seema home in India for children of sex workers and raised awareness of human trafficking and violence against women.
Jean added: “If you have a social conscience, you will be interested in joining a women’s organisation such as the club in Perth, which aims to improve the lives of women and girls, help women achieve economic and political equality, serve as a global voice for women, provide leadership and development opportunities for women, and enhance world peace and understanding.”
The group meets on the second Tuesday of most months at 6.30pm in the Royal George Hotel.
