‘Step into Christmas’ will feature popular carols and Christmas songs, including ‘White Christmas’, ‘O Holy Night,’ and ‘The Little Road to Bethlehem.’

The choir will be conducted by associate director Rona MacKenzie, accompanied on piano by musical director Edna Auld and Lorne Herriot Maitland, on saxophone by Fraser Macdonald, and on organ by John Walker.

Compèring the evening will be Dr Derek Patrick.

Tickets are £10 (or £5 for children), including refreshments at the interval. They are available from the Concorde Music Shop, from choir members, or at the door.

The next time the Jambouree singers take to their feet in St Leonard’s will be on December 24, when they take part in the Family Christmas Eve service, joined by Kenneth Maciver singing ‘O Holy Night.’ Service begins at 6pm, carols at 5.30pm. recorded an album in February with the trio - the tour is to promote that.

“I will be playing with some guys I met in London - I met David Ingamells when I was studying at Guildhall, and Ferg I met while I was living in London.

“They are great guys and really fun to play with.

“We have a few dates in England, including two in London, and in Cardiff, and then we are doing Edinburgh, Perth and Glasgow.

“I was quite keen to come here because I have never played with my own band in Perth, so I really wanted to do that.

“I actually played in St Matthew’s at Perth Festival of the Arts last year, but with a different group.

“It is a really nice place to play, so that’s why I chose that venue.”

Helena is also keen to see aspiring young musicians at the gig, as she won the Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year in 2015.

She says she hopes the gig will encourage others to aim high: “I am looking forward to the gig and I am hoping to see some old friends there. “My family will be there too. “But I am also hoping young school-age kids can come along and see what is possible for them, especially if there are any young sax players aspiring to be a professional musician.

“If they come along I can speak to them about getting into music afterwards.”

The album, which was recorded at East Coast Studios in London and released on Ubuntu Records, will be on sale at the gig as well.

Tickets for Helena Kay’s KIM trio at St Matthew’s Church cost £10, concessions £8 from www.wegottickets. com/event/457702 or on 07502229487.
