Members of the congregations from Inchture and Kinnaird churches and All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Glencarse, raised £1800 towards Alzheimer Scotland.

The members raised the money at their sixth Charity Christmas Fayre in Kinnaird Church on Wednesday, November 28.

The presentation of the cheque was made on Thursday, December 6 at Alzheimer Scotland’s Dementia Resource Centre in Dundee.

There are around 90,000 people living with dementia in Scotland and it is now estimated 20,000 people will be diagnosed with the condition every year by 2020.

Reverend Marjory MacLean, minister of Inchture and Kinnaird churches and Canon Ian Young, minister of All Saints’ Church Glencarse, said: “The churches in the Carse of Gowrie have an important local role to play in the reduction of social isolation, loneliness and the impact of bereavement and illness.

“With the ministry located in the communities of the area, and congregations of the Church of Scotland and Scottish Episcopal Church serving the major villages, the timeless presence of the Christian Church in our area provides pastoral care, spiritual encouragement and lifelong friendship to those in any kind of need, including those living with dementia.”

Clare Jamieson, community fundraiser from Alzheimer Scotland, said: “We’re so grateful to the fundraising efforts of all church congregations involved to help us support people living with dementia locally.

“A huge thanks to everyone who has donated to help make this cheque presentation possible.”

The Charity Christmas Fayre was sponsored by many local businesses and the committee has thanked them and all those who made and gave donations, volunteered to help on the day and came along to support this event.

Alzheimer Scotland is the leading dementia organisation in Scotland and delivers a range of support that recognises the needs and wishes of the individual; whether that is a person with a diagnosis, someone who is concerned about their memory, a carer, partner, family member or close friend.
