and charged in relation to an alleged assault on a 31 yearold man in the Viewfield Place area of Perth on Sunday at around 4.10pm.

He is anticipated to appear at Perth Sheriff Court today (Tuesday, February 12).

A woman, aged 21, has also been arrested and charged in connection to the incident.

Witnesses say the injured man came to the doorway of the Eastern European grocery shop Polish Taste, calling out for help.

Two female assistants from the shop helped him and phoned for an ambulance.

The 31 year-old was taken to Ninewells Hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.

Agnieszka Szczepanska, who was at the grocery shop yesterday morning, said: “The girls in the shop were very scared and confused when this guy was there in the doorway, bleeding badly, calling out to get help.

“The two girls got help when the man collapsed in the doorway and then they went home when the police arrived, very upset.

“It had been a very bad end to their day on Sunday. Everybody is very shocked.”

Other nearby businesses had been closed on Sunday afternoon, but the Sun Studio tanning shop three doors down was operating at the time of the incident.

It shut early at 4.50pm when police closed the Crieff Road and taped off the pathway outside.

Rachel Bainbridge, manager at Sun Studio, said: “I was away in Glasgow, but I came back as soon as I heard.

“When I got in at 7pm, the road was open again, but the pathway outside the shops was still taped off.”

Police officers kept the public away from a section of the Lade directly behind and overlooked by several apartments in 2936 Viewfield Place, right behind the row of shops on Crieff Road’s junction with Dunkeld Road.

Detective Sergeant Mark Lamont, on the scene yesterday, said enquiries were “ongoing”.

He commented: “The situation at Viewfield Place was contained on Sunday evening. There is no threat to the public now, but the situation right now is fluid.

“An investigation is now taking place with crime scene investigators and an increased police presence is to be expected for some time.”
