Blaze breaks out at popular lochside resort

-

the ground is working tirelessly to bring the fire under control.

“Thankfully everything is prepared for our guests who begin arriving today and we look forward to welcoming them, and the many hundreds of day visitors, who make their way to Taymouth Marina to enjoy the spectacular scenery each week.

“We have been heartened by the response from the community, our staff and our suppliers who have pulled together as one tightknit team to ensure our guests will have a wonderful visit to Taymouth Marina. Thankfully the restaurant building is separate from the self catering accommodation and the Hot Box sauna so guests will not be impacted.”

Traffic was directed away from entering the road along the south side of Loch Tay to Acharn, where the Taymouth Marina complex is located.

The road was expected to be closed for the rest of the day.

Fire crews with breathing apparatus were still trying to put out the fire after two hours.

Staff from the Scottish Crannog Centre next door were evacuated Firecrews muster to put out a fire in the restaurant

soon after the fire broke out.

Gayle van der Olivier, the Crannog’s marketing and communications officer, said: “We were advised by the fire service to leave. At first I thought it was a joke when a colleague came to get me.

“It’s been crazy here, we’re down

a tiny road. The fire engines came pretty swiftly.

“I think the first to arrive was from Aberfeldy. The fire service has been marvellous.”

Taymouth Marina consists of a mix of luxury self-catering units, located on the opposite side of the road to the restaurant, watersports and sauna facilities which were involved in the blaze.

Last summer, pop star Ed Sheeran paid a visit, arranging to spend an evening at Taymouth Marina, with the restaurant and Hot Box sauna hired out.
