Drunk man scared shop staff and customers

-

A drunken customer who caused chaos in a Perth store, intimidating staff and customers, was jailed for six months at the city’s sheriff court this week.

The court was told that 33-year-old Lukasz Brazkiewicz, who was described as “pie-eyed,” was put in an arm lock and taken to the floor after he caused trouble in Asda’s Dunkeld Road premises.

Duty managers Alexander Gibb and Margaret Findlay were alerted separately that there was an intoxicated man in the store. When the accused was traced, he wasn’t “making much sense”.

Depute fiscal Bill Kermode said they watched him leave the premises but he then returned. The court was told: “He was heading towards the toilets, behind the check-outs. He was traced and at first was quiet.”

But he then began to bang loudly on the door of a cubicle and shout in what staff believed to be Polish. None of the staff wanted to approach him because of his behaviour and police were called.

Both managers tried to calm him down as there were customers in the check-out area who were “moving away.”

Ms Findlay put out her hand but he kept coming towards her, making her feel “uncomfortable and scared” due to his aggression.

As she was pushed to the side, another person in the store applied the arm lock and he was still on the floor when police arrived and put him in handcuffs.

Solicitor Paul Ralph said his client would benefit from supervision and treatment for an alcohol problem. Brazkiewicz, of Fechney Park, Perth, was jailed for four months after he admitted acting in an aggressive manner and shouting and swearing at employees in the Dunkeld Road premises on September 26, 2018.

He was given a further two months behind bars for stealing a £10.50 bottle of alcohol from Tesco in the city’s South Street on December 15.
