Fortnight of fun at flower festival

Popular snowdrop event gets underway

Last year’s Snowdrop Festival was a huge success

1pm to 4pm.

The Snowdrop Quiz takes place on Wednesday, February 20, at the Cycling Hub. Doors open at 7pm and the fun starts at 7.30pm. Teams of four are invited to take part and entry is £10 per team.

On Thursday, February 21, at 7.30pm, Lady Catherine Erskine from the Cambo estate in Fife will give the annual snowdrop lecture in the Cycling Hub on Forfar Road in Coupar Angus.

Catherine was the founder of the Scottish Snowdrop Festival and her talk back in 2015 was a highlight of the second Snowdrop Festival in Coupar Angus.

This year she is expected to highlight how the snowdrop season is changing and the impact global warming is having on that.

On Friday, February 22, Coupar

Angus Primary’s parent council group, Support Our Children, will host the annual Snowdrop bingo tea in Coupar Angus Town Hall. Doors open at 7pm and it’s eyes down at 7.30pm.

On Saturday, February 23, the Abbey Church will host its spring fair, featuring craft stalls, a tombola, raffle, and snowdrop-themed craft activities including printing at the church on the Dundee road from 10am to 2pm. Entry is £2.50, which includes refreshmen­ts. Children are free when accompanie­d by an adult.

Local artists Mary Meldrum Brown and Cornelia Weinmann will be showcasing their upcycled furniture designs at the Coupar Angus Heritage Centre from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, February 23 and Sunday, February 24.

Vintage afternoon teas will also be available in the St Anne’s Church Hall on Forfar Road that weekend from 2pm to 4pm on both days.

John Palfreyman of the Coupar Angus Town Team group is one of the coordinato­rs of the festival.

He said: “Our festival is loosely co-ordinated by the Town Team but really it is about local groups sharing their skills, excitement, enterprise and enthusiasm for snowdrops and for Coupar Angus.

“It has grown from humble beginnings to become a highlight in the town’s calendar and we hope that lots of people enjoy the many events and opportunit­ies on offer in Coupar Angus that we are showcasing.”

Copies of the festival brochure are available in cafés and shops in Coupar Angus and Blairgowri­e.
