Farmer Jim on tour

-

Perthshire farmer and rising comedy star, Jim Smith, has dates all over Scotland for an autumn tour with a stop in Perth on October 19.

The‘Back to the Teuchter’tour sees Jim in the ring, charging around with lots of Highland humour gleaned from real life farming. (Teuchter appears in the Collins dictionary as“a derogatory word used by Lowlanders for a Highlander”).

Described by promoters as‘Countryfile meets The Only Way Is Essex’, farmer Jim hits the stage with quirky characters, distinctive regional slang and perfectly pitched impressions to give city slickers an understanding of what the outside world looks like to those that ‘bide up the glen’.

He set his funny stall up on the basis that after a lifetime working the land, he has a unique insight into rural living backed up with sharp observational humour.

Still a working sheep and beef farmer in Perthshire, Jim’s hot topics include Jim Smith can do it

Legend has it the agricultural comedian caught the comedy bug after writing sketches for the Young Farmers panto. He went on to make his stage debut five years ago.

Since then he’s been bringing barrowloads of comic country tales to audiences across Scotland, making him one of Scotland’s most exciting up and coming performers with two sell-out Fringe runs under his belt.

Right now he’s honing a show that’s suitable for country folk and trendy townies alike.

The autumn tour comes hot on the heels of his BBC mockumentary mini-series,‘The Farm’.

Setting off at the start of September, his tractor trailer parks up in Inverness, Aberdeen, Campbeltown, Kelso, Oban, Kilmarnock, Skye, Falkirk and finally at Perth Concert Hall on October 19.

Tickets for the Perth show, cost £17.50 and are available from Horsecross Arts, www.horsecross.co.uk or 01738 621031.
