Campfires, stories and play make learning a joy

-

Wee Wild Sparks nursery kids learn so much in the woods If you go down to the woods today - you might find the children of Wee Wild Sparks nursery.

The outdoor nursery can be found every week day in seven acres of private woods just outside Coupar Angus.

Open for children aged three to seven, the emphasis is very much on free play and supporting the social and emotional development of the children.

Kids can enjoy playing in the woods before coming together for stories and campfires.

And if the rain gets too heavy, staff can erect a tarpaulin tent in just a few minutes to keep the kids dry or go into a cosy tent with a stove.

While there, children are encouraged to cooperate with each other and build their own independence.

The nursery even has its own compost toilet while kids wash their hands in warm, running water.

One grandparent said: “My grandson has really grown in confidence. He has been learning so many new things which he could only learn about when attending an outdoor provision.”

The nursery, which currently caters for 12 children per day, is also set to become a partner provider with Perth and Kinross Council later this year. Curious families can visit the nursery for a free taster session.
