Event will encourage girls into a plumb job Careers night at college
along with SNIPEF.
Marguerite explained: “The idea of the event is to attract females interested or curious about a career/ apprenticeship in plumbing along to an ‘open day’ set up with Perth College.
“The event is targeted at females, due to the underrepresentation of females within this industry.
“It is the first time we have tried such an event - to target specifically at females, but we wanted to create a safe and positive space for those interested and their parents and or carers, so that they can find out more.”
At the event there will be one or two female apprentices past and present, discussing their own experiences on the modern apprenticeship and talks will be given by employers who have or currently hire female apprentices.
SNIPEF will also talk apprentice Lisa Hamilton about what is involved in the apprenticeship, and how to apply. “We are also appealing to local plumbing employers to attend, so that they can hear about the positive experiences other employers have had hiring female apprentices,” continued Marguerite.
“We will also use the event to talk about the various career options possible from doing a plumbing apprenticeship, have a tour of the facilities at the college and open up Q&As to a panel of employers, apprentices and industry associates.”
Before the event begins, there will be refreshment between 5pm and 5.30pm.
